I couldn’t choose a specific book except to say I enjoy reading about real people and their own stories of survival. I would never read a book from anyone who claimed to have the ‘secret’ to survival or something that works for everyone. It is not possible to have that kind of secret unless you are trying to sell books to people too lost to realize the answer lies within. If I read a simple book on someone who survived and tells me what worked for them, then fabulous. I can take from them the parts I think I can learn from and simply be happy for them in their own success.

One book I would recommend along the healing and personal discovery journey is the book, Directing the Power of Conscious Feelings
, by Clinton Callahan, because it’s writing style is the right mix of jarring and blunt, yet revealing and inspiring at the same time. Plus, the exercises and thought experiments within the book are great ways to learn about yourself.

Unlearn your pain by Dr Howard Schubiner.
I have a whole list of the ones that I listened to but that was my favorite. I could see myself on the pages. It was like I was reading an autobiography. It also provided great worksheet to help readers process thoughts and emotions.

But Dr Sarno has classic TMS literature. Besides from that, read the Tao Te Ching!

At Last a Life by Paul David. It's a simple, easy to read book about one man's recovery from anxiety and panic attacks. It works hand in hand with mind/body healing and addresses the very real symptom of anxiety that causes suffering for so many. All chronic pain causes some level of anxiety, sometimes severe, so getting to the root of our anxious thoughts and sitting with them without causing yet more anxiety is paramount.

I highly recommend his “Back in Control” book and his website. This is the point in time that a sense of hope returned. Read Dr. Hanscom’s “stories of hope”. When I first read these stories of people curing themselves of pain I was immediately hooked.
